Andons can be used in a wide
variety of applications and can be constructed for viewing 100-600 feet
away. They offer visual control and typically are provided with LED backlit
panels and/or numeric fields to display machine status or line states. Color
panels can be used to display up, down or needs assistance, material
requests for JIT or colors based on elapsed cycle time or downtime.
Preventative maintenance boards are an effective tool for any lean
manufacturing environment.
These lean manufacturing tools are commonly used to aid in reduction of
costly waste. They provide an easy and useful method to alert personnel
instantaneously of line conditions. Andon boards can be manufactured built

Lean manufacturing andons can be custom manufactured to
incorporate numeric fields that display anything from production goal,
actual, deviation, efficiency, material request, cycle time, OEE, downtime,
run time, overage, waste and more. They can incorporate alarms or horn
output devices for non-visual alarms that can be triggered for warnings or
to get attention from a specific team or department based on the tune
played. Some systems are provided as serial slave units for 100% customer
control, others are provided as smart units with data monitoring and
archiving capability. Smart units provided with archiving offer ability to
program operation/break schedules and shift schedules to automate the reset
and hold logic for a stand-alone system. Smart units with archiving also
offer tools to generate shift reports. These units are ideal to getting your
line to a one piece flow. |

JIT Just In Time boards can be anything from
a simple setup or maintenance timer, up to a large format andon / production
board incorporating all machine or station data such as: setup time, run
time, downtime, scrap count, inventory levels, part numbers, material
locations and priorities for material or inventory requirements.
Another system utilized in today's manufacturing is the Kanban system.
Kanban boards are generally used for inventory and material delivery. They
are used to prioritize output requirements and schedule production based on
real-time needs while maintaining material necessary without waste or
unnecessary downtime. These can incorporate numeric job or batch data, when
it's needed and material requests or requirements. These are used for
implementing one piece flow with minimal downtime and waste. Below are some
